Sedation Dentistry in Tacoma, WA

Comfortable, Anxiety-Free Dental Care

Sedation & Patient Comfort

Your comfort is central to how we care for you. Whether you feel mild nervousness or significant dental anxiety, sedation dentistry helps you relax while Dr. Ghadri completes your treatment with precision and efficiency.

We offer three levels of sedation, from light and short-acting to deeper, fully monitored care. During your consultation, we review your medical history, your comfort level, and the treatment planned, then recommend the option that fits you best.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a safe and effective form of mild sedation that helps reduce anxiety and promote relaxation during dental procedures. Administered through a small nose mask, its effects begin within minutes and wear off quickly after treatment, allowing most patients to drive themselves home and resume normal daily activities.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment to help you feel calm and relaxed throughout your procedure. While you remain awake and able to respond to instructions, many patients feel little anxiety and remember very little about their treatment. Because the effects can last several hours, a responsible adult will be needed to drive you home.

IV Sedation

IV sedation provides a deeper level of relaxation for patients undergoing more complex procedures or those with moderate to severe dental anxiety. Administered and carefully monitored throughout your appointment, IV sedation allows you to remain comfortable while continuing to breathe on your own and respond to verbal cues. At OSYNTRA, your safety and comfort are our highest priorities, and every sedation plan is tailored to your individual health needs and treatment goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Sedation dentistry is very safe when it is provided by a trained clinician. Dr. Ghadri reviews your medical history and current medications before recommending an option, and your comfort is monitored throughout treatment. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation let you stay awake and responsive, while IV sedation is carefully titrated and monitored for your safety.

It depends on your level of anxiety, the procedure planned, and your overall health. Mild nervousness is often well managed with nitrous oxide, while longer or more involved treatment, or higher anxiety, may be better suited to oral or IV sedation. We will recommend the right level at your consultation.

Most dental sedation is conscious sedation, which means you stay awake but deeply relaxed and able to respond. It is not general anesthesia. Many patients remember very little about the appointment afterward, especially with oral or IV sedation.

With nitrous oxide, the effects wear off quickly and most patients can drive themselves home. With oral conscious sedation and IV sedation, the effects last several hours, so you will need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you.

Coverage varies by plan and by the reason sedation is recommended. Some plans help cover sedation for qualifying procedures. Our team can review your benefits and provide documentation to help you understand your options before treatment.
